A university opened after 21 years. What begins when the waiting ends?
After years of working and waiting, when the door finally opens, do I receive the result as something entrusted to me—or claim it as something I own?

Near the end of Mesilas Yesharim, in the chapter on kedushah, Ramchal writes: “Its beginning is effort and its end is a gift.” The exact Hebrew and Torah Lens’s English rendering appear with the source below.
This is not a slogan promising that every serious plan will succeed. Ramchal is describing the final stage of an ordered life of avodah. A person must begin with work, restraint and persistence; yet the completion of kedushah is not something human effort can manufacture alone. Hashem gives what lies beyond the reach of that effort.
That distinction protects both sides. Calling the end a gift does not erase the work. Calling the beginning effort does not make the worker the owner of the end.
What happened
On October 20, Tel-Hai University of Kiryat Shmona in the Galilee opened its first academic year as Israel’s 11th research university.
The Times of Israel reported that the change from academic college to university completed a government plan begun in 2005, after the northern region endured years of war, evacuation and remote study.
Enrollment has returned to roughly 5,000 students, and the university says it plans to reach 8,000 students and double its faculty over five years.
University leaders said the institution is meant not only to teach and conduct research, but also to help draw people, industry and opportunity back to the Galilee.

Return to the news
Twenty-one years of planning can tempt people to say: we made this happen. The same years can teach something quieter. Many people carried one part; conditions changed; a war emptied the region; students and teachers returned; and the final opening belongs to no single pair of hands. Ramchal does not make effort unreal. He makes it honest: the beginning is ours to attempt, while completion arrives as a gift from Hashem. A gift does not end responsibility; it begins a new one. In ordinary avodah, when a long project finally works, gratitude should keep success from becoming possession. The first question is not only, “What did I achieve?” but also, “What is this result now asking me to serve?”

We do not know why a result came at this time, and we should not turn a public milestone into a claim about hidden heavenly reasons.
A gift does not end responsibility; it begins a new one. The university itself spoke of a mission beyond its new title. In ordinary avodah, when a long project finally works, gratitude can keep success from becoming possession. The first question is not only, “What did I achieve?” but also, “What is this result now asking me to serve?”

Take one thing with you
At the end of one successful task today, name one effort that was yours and one condition you did not provide. Thank Hashem for the result, then choose one responsibility that the result now creates.
